Aly Grodell Named CCCWVCA State Player of the Week

College of the Canyons sophomore outside hitter Aly Grodell has been named a California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) State Player of the Week for the period running Nov. 7-12.
Grodell is the representative from the Southern California region. She is joined by Renee Nachtigall of Hartnell College in the Northern Region.
The Valencia High School graduate turned in back-to-back standout performances in helping the Cougars close out its undefeated run through the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division schedule.
During 'Sophomore Night' at the Cougar Cage on Nov. 8, Grodell put on a show with 14 kills on a .722 hitting night and was active at the net with two blocked shots and a pair of block assists to help Canyons defeat visiting West L.A. College 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21).
Three nights later Grodell was at it once again with 13 kills to help get Canyons past host Antelope Valley by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-14) score. Grodell also had four total blocks, bringing her total to eight for the week.
The win vs. Antelope Valley was the 13th straight for No. 14 state ranked Canyons and completed the Cougars' first undefeated conference season since 2015.
The conference champion Cougars will close out the regular season with a road match at No. 5 Ventura College, champions of the WSC, North Division, on Tuesday, Nov. 15 as part of the annual WSC Crossover event.
