
Lady Cougars Move Streak to Four with Victory Over Glendale

GLENDALE — College of the Canyons extended its conference win streak to four games while getting back to .500 on the season with a 3-0 road victory over Glendale College on Friday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-18, 25-14.
Canyons (9-9, 5-2) has lost just one game in the month of October. Included in the current four-game streak are four road matches, helping the Lady Cougars improve their road mark to 5-3 on the year.
COC made quick work of the Vaqueros (8-12, 3-4) with decisive victories in the first and third sets. The squad combined for 15 aces including a game-high eight off the strong arm of Kaitlyn Vazin.
Vazin was outstanding throughout, hitting .455 with five kills, 14 digs and a block assist to go alongside her work from the service line. The five kills tied with Priscilla Miranda for second on the team, trailing Ana Vasquez' game-high eight kills. Vasquez hit .438 for the match.
Kamia Benjamin and Sutton Thompson also found success with three and two aces, respectively. Benjamin recorded a combined four blocks in the game. Thompson added eight assists on the night.
Sophia Aranzazu was the match leader with 19 assists alongside an ace and eight digs. Presley Golphenee led the way with 16 digs in another strong defensive performance for the freshman libero.
With five regular season matches remaining, Canyons will next host No. 21 Bakersfield College (11-5, 7-0) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the Cougar Cage.
