Canyons Volleyball Records 3-1 Road Win at Desert

PALM DESERT — College of the Canyons picked up its second win of the season at College of the Desert in a four-set road victory. Set scores were 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.
Canyons (2-2) dropped the first set with a four-point deficit, before grinding out victories in the next three sets.
The Roadrunners (5-2) kept Canyons on its toes throughout the match, but it wasn't enough to halt the Cougars' momentum.
COC sophomore Ana Vasquez led the way with 14 points coming off a team-high nine kills and five aces. Vasquez also worked for seven digs in her four sets of action.
Presley Golphenee procured the most digs on the court. The sophomore libero tallied 13 digs while also producing four points of her own coming from behind the service line.
COC sophomore middle blocker Leah Gillie commanded seven kills and worked defensively for four solo blocks and two block assists with just as many digs.
Freshman Madison Andrews played in every set, claiming seven kills, an ace and solo block for her stat line. She finished the night with a kill percentage of .545, the highest of the night.
The Cougars also saw aces from Savannah Anaya, Kaitlyn Vazin and Morgan Dumlao.
Anaya posted five kills while Vazin finished with six. Dumlao, a freshman setter, ended things with 26 assists while recording six digs and a block assist.
Next up, Canyons travels to face No. 1 state ranked San Diego Mesa College (5-0) at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.
