No. 22 Canyons Wins Fourth Straight 3-0 vs. Citrus College

No. 22 College of the Canyons recorded its fourth straight victory in a 3-0 affair vs. Citrus College at the Cougar Cage on Friday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-17, 25-18.
Canyons (11-8, 6-1) has now won six of its last seven matches, all coming against Western State Conference (WSC), South Division opponents. The 6-1 conference mark has the Cougars tied with No. 16 Santa Monica College (13-7, 6-1) atop the standings. COC previously defeated Santa Monica by a 3-1 score back on Oct. 11.
COC sophomore Ana Vasquez tied for the match-high with 14 kills while hitting .355 on 31 total attacks. She added an ace and eight digs with a pair of block assists to help leads Canyons to victory.
Sofia Miranda hit .400 with nine kills while Celeste Anaya added to the attack with eight kills on a team-best .583 hitting percentage. Leah Gillie chipped in with eight kills of her own on another efficient night from the sophomore. Gillie also finished with a combined four blocks. Rylee Booth was next with five kills on the night.
Canyons hit .357 as a team compared to a mark of .176 for the Owls. COC totaled five aces compared to just two for Citrus. Those numbers helped translate to a dominating 25-12 advantage for COC in the opening set. The Owls made things a little closer across the next two frames but couldn't keep pace with the Cougars down the stretch.
Sophomore Presley Golphenee led the squad with 10 digs alongside six assists. Morgan Dumlao finished with 20 assists, eight digs and an ace. Sophia Aranzazu also got involved with 14 assists, two aces and three digs.
Citrus (3-14, 2-5) was led by McKenna Cooper's 14 kills which provided the bulk of the offense.
Canyons will look to keep its streak intact with a pair of upcoming conference road games, first at Glendale College on Oct. 30, before taking a trip north to face Bakersfield College on Friday, Nov. 1.
COC returns to the Cougar Cage on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for a date with Santa Monica. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
