Bio

Lisa Hooper begins her 21st year in a head coach role with the College of the Canyons women's volleyball program in 2023.

Along with her coaching responsibilities, Hooper teaches kinesiology, volleyball, stretching and health classes and also serves on various college committees. Most recently, Hooper completed an Academic Senate faculty leadership assignment as the college's chair of curriculum, a position that rotates among faculty members. She is the current vice president of the college's academic senate.

In her previous 20 seasons with the program (1998-2015 & 2022), Hooper recorded a 295-161 overall record, with six Western State Conference (WSC) championships and state championship tournament appearances in 2007, 2015 and 2022. She also coached two All-American student-athletes. In 2022, she returned to the program and helped lead the Lady Cougars to a 20-9 overall record, along with a conference title and trip to the CCCAA State Championship tourney, the program's second in as many years. Those efforts were rewarded with a conference Coach of the Year honors, alongside Canyons co-head coach Clay Timmons.

Hooper is a six-time WSC Coach of the Year honoree, having taken home the award in each of her conference championship seasons — 1999, 2000, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2022 — while also being nominated for regional coach of the year in 1999.

During Hooper’s first run with the program, Canyons earned the distinction of being ranked among the top-25 teams in the state for 14 consecutive seasons.

In 2008, her squad was named the CCCAA Scholar Athlete team after posting a combined GPA of 3.0 and demonstrating better-than-average accomplishments in intercollegiate athletic competition.

Hooper has acted as an executive board member for the California Community College Women’s Volleyball Coaches Association.

She earned her bachelor of science degree with an emphasis in sports nutrition from Pepperdine in 1992 and her master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise physiology from Long Beach State in 1997.

A graduate from nearby Canyon High School, Hooper was an All-Golden League, All-CIF and All-Santa Clarita Valley player in high school.

She resides in Saugus with husband, Garrett, and daughter, Kira and twins, Noah and Sophie.
