Cross Country Teams Come In Second At Ventura College Invitational
In the first competition for the College of the Canyons men's and women's cross country program, the teams finished in second place at the Ventura College Invitational at Arroyo Verde Park on Friday afternoon. Freshman Rodrigo Ornelas led the men's team and took home the top individual stop, while freshman Dominique Dowell came in fifth place for the women's team.
VENTURA, Calif. - In the first competition for the College of the Canyons men's and women's cross country program, the teams finished in second place at the Ventura College Invitational at Arroyo Verde Park on Friday afternoon. Freshman Rodrigo Ornelas led the men's team and took home the top individual stop, while freshman Dominique Dowell came in fifth place for the women's team.
The COC men's team finished with 37 points behind first-place finisher Mt. SAC who completed the afternoon with 23 points. The women also came in behind Mt. SAC who tallied 21 points, compared to the Cougar's 47 in the four-team race.
Ornelas crossed the finished line first in the men's 4-mile run in a time of 21:44.65 followed by freshman Robert Pion who came in a minute later, in a time of 22:33.96. Freshman Alex Johnson rounded out the top-10 finishers for the men's race completing the race in 23:21.29. All of COC's runners were part of the top-19 finishers.
In the women's race, Dowell led the COC ladies with a 22:27.24 5K time. She was followed by freshman Yesenia Razo (22:51.84) and freshman Diana Barrera (23:35.58). In total, COC's seven scorers were all in the top 20.
College of the Canyons will return to action on Sept. 7 as they travel to the Fresno Invite.
