Canyons Cross Country Teams Both Take Second at Golden West Invite

The College of the Canyons men's and women's cross country teams both ran to second place finishes at the Golden West Invitational held at Central Park in Hunting Beach on Friday, Sept. 25.
The women's team finished in second place with 55 points, behind Glendale College at 32 points.
COC freshman Jessica Ruiz led the way finishing third overall with a time of 19:35.1.
Sophomore Amanda De Jesus finished next with a time of 19:46 that was good enough for fifth place. Sophomore Alexandra Whitman finished just outside the top ten in 11th place with a time of 20:03.5.
On the men's side, COC took second among the field of 16 teams with 66 points and an average time of 21:44. Riverside City College just ahead of the Cougars in first place with a mark of 60.
Canyons had three runners finish in the top ten. COC sophomore Ethan Walker took first with a time of 20:53.9.
Sophomore Jason Hillquist finished with a time of 21:39.0 in taking eighth place, and freshman Alejandro Bernal finished in ninth place with a time of 21:43.2.
Canyons will next compete in the Western State Conference Preview on Friday Oct. 2, at Oxnard College.
