Canyons Cross Country Teams Compete at Santa Barbara Invite
Both the men's and women's teams finish in fifth place.
The College of the Canyons men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Santa Barbara City College Cross Country Invitational held Friday, Oct. 9, at Ledbetter Beach, with both teams running to fifth place finishes.
The men's team finished fifth overall among the field of 14 schools with a team score of 314, while featuring one individual runner in the top ten. Canyons was led by freshman Nick Liebmann who finished 10th with a time of 23:12.7.
Also competing for the Cougars were freshmen Mauricio La Plant and Carlos Huefano who finished with times of 24:03.0 and 24:38.0.
The women's team also finished fifth among the field of 10 schools with a score of 128. Canyons also had two runners finish in the top 25.
COC freshman Sandra Garcia finished 20th overall with a time of 23:06.2 to lead the squad. Canyons sophomore Nicole Casillas finished with a time of 23:20.5, which was good for a 23rd overall finish.
Finishing 26th overall was sophomore Carmen Hernandez with a time of 23:30.5.
The men's and women's cross country teams will next run at the annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational at 10 a.m. Friday Oct. 16.
