Canyons Cross Country Teams Finish Top Six at WSC Preview

The College of the Canyons men's and women's cross country teams both ran to top-six finishes at the Western State Conference (WSC) Preview hosted by Cuesta College on Friday.

The Lady Cougars placed fourth in the field of 10 schools, highlighted by a 16th place run from sophomore Amanda Finn at 21:31.3. Samantha Bell followed just three spots behind in 19th at 21:53.5. Celeste Gonzalez was third for Canyons finishing the course 31st overall in 23:37.8.

Graciela Torres (40th/24:26.5) and Takaira Beard (43rd/24:41.3) also scored for COC.

Glendale College (41) narrowly won the women's 5K race over second place Moorpark College (43). Ventura College (70) placed third with COC (128) in the fourth spot.

COC's men's team finished the event in sixth place with freshman Jacob Acosta leading the way at a pace of 23:41.9, good for 25th in the field of 100 runners.

Sebastian Holding was 32nd overall after being clocked at 24:01.5 on the four-mile course. Hunter Covarrubias was 37th at 24:09.9.

Brannon Barber (40th/24:23.2) and Edgar Aguilar-Lara (57th/25:16.5) rounded out the Canyons top five.

In the team standings it was event winner Glendale (35) followed by runner up Moorpark (97), Oxnard College (115), West L.A. College (136), host Cuesta (139) and Canyons (170) for the top six spots. 

The Cougars will run again at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday Oct. 5 in the final event before the WSC Championships on Oct. 19, in Glendora.
