Osorio Runs to Third Place Finish at Oxnard Invitational

OXNARD — College of the Canyons sophomore Milca Osorio placed third in the women's individual standings and the Cougars' men's team put together a sixth-place score at the annual Oxnard College Invitational on Sept. 9.
Osorio posted a time of 20:05.6 on the 5K course. She had previously placed fourth overall at the season-opening Moorpark College Invitational the week prior.
Hannah Brown of Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) won the women's event at 19:40.2. Brianna King (19:54.8) of Chaffey was second with Osorio and Ingrid Tamayo (20:06.4) of Mt. SAC rounding out the top four.
COC sophomore Maylani Perez (22:32.2) was 27th in the field of 51 runners to represent the only other entrant on the women's side.
The Cougars' men's team was sixth in the field of eight with a score of 146. Mt. SAC (28) won the event followed by Glendale (52) and Santa Monica (84) in the top three.
Freshman Sam Regez (22:08.4) was the top finisher for Canyons slotting 24th in the field of 78.
Cesar Tobar (23:17.8) was next with a four-mile run that landed in 33rd place.
Juan Jimenez-Rojas (25:02.9/52nd), Jerome Hughes (25:12.7/54th) and Isaac Wilkinson (25:12.9/55th) rounded out the scoring for Canyons.
Fernando Osorio (25:36.3/59th) and Elijah Dixon (26:28.4/67th) also ran for the Cougars.
Canyons will be back on the course Friday, Sept. 16 at the Golden West Invitational in Huntington Central Park in Huntington Beach.
