Bio
Jesse Muñoz begins his 12th year as the college's Director of Public Relations, Sports Information & Athletic Communications in fall 2025.
In his role, Muñoz is responsible for the marketing, advertising and publicity efforts for all 17 Cougars athletic programs, including management of COCathletics.com, the athletic department’s official social media accounts (@COCathletics), and the Cougar Sports Network (CSN) live stream broadcast channel on YouTube.
He also oversees the collection of game statistics and preservation of athletic records and archive materials, along with in-game photography/videography services and the coordination of all media relations services and requests, including the live stream production of more than 80 Cougars home games each year. Muñoz also provides color commentary alongside CSN play-by-play man Matt Robinson during Cougars football broadcasts.
He is a member of the department’s Athletic Hall of Fame Committee which organizes the college’s biennial Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and also contributes to the annual Student-Athlete Achievement Dinner.
Beginning in 2007, he served as a writer/photographer in the college’s Public Information Office (2007 to 2014) before moving into the role of Interim Sports Information Director in fall 2014. In summer 2015, Muñoz was hired as Director of Public Relations & Sports Information and continues to split his duties between the college’s Public Information Office and Athletic department.
He is an active member of the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA), College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the Two-Year Sports Information Directors Association (2YSIDA).
Prior to joining College of the Canyons, Muñoz was a general assignment reporter covering education and public affairs at The Signal newspaper in Santa Clarita.
A nearly 40-year resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, Muñoz is a product of the local school systems having graduated from Saugus High School.
As a former California Community College student, Muñoz earned his associate degree from Grossmont College before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Long Beach. Along the way he also attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
Muñoz enjoys spending time with wife Ashley and two children, Alice and Bobby. Together they enjoy taking family road trip vacations across multiple states, while visiting various National Parks and MLB stadiums, and attending a multitude of sporting events while rooting for their favorite teams (Dodgers, Raiders, Lakers, Angel City Football Club, USC Trojans and of course COC Cougars).
He is also a three-time champion of the College of the Canyons Fantasy Football League.
However, his greatest joy is watching his own children compete in the field and on the court, by attending their various youth sports practices and games.
