Bio

Chad Peters begins his first year as the college's Dean of Kinesiology, Health & Wellness, Fitness & Athletics in spring 2024.

He previously served as Athletic Director from 2021 to 2024, after having spent five seasons as the department's Associate Athletic Director and eight years at College of the Canyons as an athletic trainer and adjunct faculty member in the kinesiology department.

In 2021, the California Community College Athletic Trainers Association (CCCATA) named Peters its Athletic Trainer of the Year. An active member of CCCATA for the last 12 years, Peters previously served the organization as the Southern California vice president for six years. He also previously held the position of CCCATA president for three years.

Peters first arrived at COC in 2008, working as an athletic trainer, with an eye toward the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of activity-related injuries and conditions sustained by student-athletes while competing for the college’s intercollegiate sports programs. A certified athletic trainer, Peters also spent six years in the same capacity at L.A. Valley College. Prior to that he worked as an athletic trainer for two years at California State University, Bakersfield.

A product of the California Community College system, Peters earned his associate degree from Moorpark College in 1997. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports medicine from Fresno State in 2000.

Peters also holds a master’s degree in health care administration from California State University, Bakersfield, and a second master’s degree in physical education from Emporia State University.
