Canyons Opens WSC Schedule, Takes Streak to Six Games vs. L.A. Pierce

The College of the Canyons men's basketball team has now won six straight contests after a convincing 77-62 victory vs. L.A. Pierce College to begin Western State Conference (WSC) play at the Cougar Cage on Saturday.
Canyons (11-10, 1-0) battled back and forth in the early part of the first half, but a 12-4 scoring run with eight minutes left provided enough cushion for the Cougars to secure the win.
Pierce looked to push Canyons in the second half, but was unable to get any closer than five points, as COC maintained a double-digit lead for the better part of the second half.

Sophomore forward Chris Collins and Michael Kalu each scored 15 points. Kalu added four assists, four rebounds and two steals. Collins finished with five rebounds.
Freshman Jason Horosny added 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Alex Sanchez came off the bench with nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
Garret Harding added seven points and Garrett Mike tied Sanchez with a team-high six rebounds.
Canyons returns to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 25, in a road game vs. Santa Monica College (9-11,1-1).
