College of the Canyons played its first season on the newly named court, Lee Smelser Court, dedicated to longtime head coach Lee Smelser and his dedication to the Men’s Basketball program. Canyons finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 8-20, including a Western State Conference (WSC), South Division record of 1-13. In November, the Cougars hosted the 15th annual Clash at Canyons tournament where they took the trophy over Cuyamaca College in a close 74-70 result. Sophomores Jonah El-Farra and Jacob Gonzalez were the only Cougars to be honored with All-WSC, South Division accolades. El-Farra was named to the All-WSC, South Division First Team for the second year in a row. Reaching double digit point totals in 24 games out of his 28, El-Farra worked for a team-best of 16.3 points and a state-best of 11.9 rebounds per night. His season high came against West L.A. College on Jan. 24 where he put down 33 points. Gonzalez was named an All-WSC, South Division Honorable mention for his time on the court averaging 6.4 points, two rebounds and a team-best of 2.3 assists per game. Gonzalez will be continuing his career with Eureka College and El-Farra is set to join Westminster University in the fall.

2022-23

College of the Canyons opened the 2022-23 season with its second straight win at ‘Clash at Canyons’ as head coach Howard Fisher reached his 300th career win. COC went on to win the Cougar Holiday Classic Tournament before heading into conference play. The Cougars finished Western State Conference (WSC), South Division play with a 5-9 record to finish an even 14-14 on the season. COC saw three Cougars recognized as All-WSC honorees. Freshman Jonah El-Farra was a First-Team selection after averaging 12.1 points per game, with a team-leading nine rebounds per game and shooting 63.8 percent from the field, good for second in the conference.  Andrew Henderson earned his First-Team honors for the second straight year by averaging 18.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 81.9 percent from the free throw line, Henderson reached a personal milestone surpassing 1,000 points in his two-years as a Cougar. Sophomore Dillon Barrientos was named All-WSC Honorable mention and will be seen continuing his basketball career at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Sophomore Quincy Arms will also continue his career at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, while Henderson is headed to Sonoma State University.

2021-22

College of the Canyons finished the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 15-11 while going an even 7-7 in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division. COC kicked off the year by winning the season opening ‘Clash at Canyons’ tournament with a 116-84 victory over Barstow College. Despite a back-and forth-season, Canyons saw four Cougars honored with All-WSC accolades. Freshmen Andrew Henderson and Dillon Barrientos led the way as All-WSC, South Division First-Team selections. Henderson worked for an average of 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game and shot better than 56 percent from the field. He was the top shooter in the WSC, South Division and ranked 17th in the state. Henderson’s performance also earned him a spot on the 2021-22 CCCMBCA All-State Team. COC’s point guard, Barrientos, ran the court averaging 14 points, 3.7 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor. The pair was followed by freshmen Jimmy Galgano and Dylan Griffin as All-WSC Honorable Mention selections. 

2020-21
College of the Canyons athletic programs did not compete during the 2020-21 season due to cancellations based on the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019-20

College of the Canyons finished the year 9-17 overall with a 2-12 mark vs. conference opponents. The Cougars started the year 7-5 while playing its first six scheduled home games at alternative venues due to ongoing renovations at the Cougar Cage. COC freshman Christopher Bradford and sophomore Zach Phipps both earned All-WSC honors. In addition, Bradford was a 2019-20 California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Associations (CCCMBCA) All-California Team Honorable Mention selection. He is the first Cougar to earn All-State team honors since the 2016-17 season. Phipps was named to the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCMBCA) All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season. Canyons has three players move on to join four-year programs in forward Jah-Kez Moore (Dean College), Phipps (UC Merced) and point guard Jordan Nash (Nebraska Wesleyan University).

2018-19

College of the Canyons finished the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 14-14 and conference mark of 5-3 to finish runner-up in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division. COC won four of its final five games down the stretch but narrowly missed out on a postseason bid. The Cougars had three All-WSC selections at season’s end. Sophomore Jude Agbasi earned First-Team honors after leading the team with an average of 17.1 points per game. Sophomore guard Denzel Nwanguma, who led the WSC with 5.6 assists per game, and forward Anthony Simone were both Honorable Mention selections. 

2017-18

College of the Canyons posted an overall record of 14-14 and 5-3 vs. conference opponents to qualify for the postseason for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign. The Cougars finished as runner up in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division after falling to conference champion West L.A. College 93-79 in the regular season finale. No. 20 Canyons was eventually eliminated by No. 13 Santiago Canyon College in the opening round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Cougars had four players named to the all-conference squad, with sophomore guards Michael Kalu and Jacob Lilley both named First-Team selections. Freshman center Anthony Simone and sophomore forward Frankie Campbell both received Honorable Mention nods.

2016-17

The College of the Canyons men’s basketball program concluded the 2016-17 season with a 12-16 overall record and 2-6 mark in conference play to finish fourth in the WSC, South Division. That total represented a seven game improvement from the previous season. Canyons had three players named to the 2017 All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division Team, with freshman guards Michael Kalu and Jacob Lilley both earning First-Team selections, and sophomore forward Chris Collins receiving Honorable Mention status. Kalu also earned a 2016-17 California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Associations (CCCMBCA) All-California Team Honorable Mention selection.

2015-16

The 2015-16 men’s basketball season was marred by injuries which resulted in the Cougars posting a 5-21 overall record and a 0-14 conference mark. Despite the team’s overall record, the individual performance of forward Victor Nwaba earned the sophomore All-WSC First Team honors. Nwaba played in all 26 games and led the team in scoring with 18.1 points per game – good for fifth in the conference –while shooting 45.4 percent from the field. Always an explosive scorer, Nwaba finished his Cougar career with a 30-point performance vs. Antelope Valley College on Feb. 20, 2016 after shooting 13-of-19 from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point land. In May 2016, it was announced that COC head coach Howard Fisher would serve as head coach of the Youth Men's Basketball team for Team USA at the 20th World Maccabiah Game being held in Israel, July 4-17, 2017.

2014-15

The College of the Canyons men’s basketball team finished the regular season with a 15-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Western State Conference, South Division to earn a berth into the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. In December, the Cougars won the annual Kris Kringle Tournament hosted Santa Rosa Junior College.  The Cougars were led by WSC All-Conference 1st team selections Coley Apsay and Tullio Parry. Sophomore forward Ricardo Greaves also received Honorable Mention recognition. Apsay finished the season in the top 10 in the WSC in three offensive categories, and led the Cougars in scoring and assists. Apsay averaged 17 points per game – good for seventh in the conference – and finished third in the conference in assists per game with 4.5. Parry finished second in scoring for the Cougars averaging 11.8 points per game and led the team in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game. He also finished ninth in the conference in rebounding.

2013-14

The College of the Canyons men’s basketball team struggled through an inconsistent regular season, finishing with a 12-13 overall record and a 6-6 Western State Conference record. Three players were named to the Western State Conference, North Division, All-Conference team, however. Sophomores Ilya Ilyayev and David Horst were named to first-team and sophomore Roman Delgado was named honorable mention. Illyayev averaged 17.2 points per game for fourth best in the conference. Horst averaged 10.1 points per game and was third on the team in scoring. Delgado was second in the conference in assists per game (5.5) and averaged 11.3 points per game.

2012-13

For the first time since 2007, the College of the Canyons men's basketball team won a Western State Conference, South Division, title after finishing the season with a 9-1 conference record. COC continued to cruise as the beat Allan Hancock in the second round of the playoffs, marking the squad's first appearance in the third round of the playoffs under 13-year head coach Howard Fisher. COC's playoff run was cut short in the third round of the playoffs, when COC met Mt. San Antonio and fell 93-85. Sophomore Jaylen Bland was named All-State Southern California and six Cougars were named all-conference.
