College of the Canyons sophomore Jimmy Galgano buried a three-pointer as regulation expired to send the Cougars to overtime vs. visiting Glendale College on Saturday, but five mins later it was the Vaqueros who walked away with a tight 71-70 conference victory.
Canyons (10-10, 1-5) saw four starters finish in double figures, helping the Cougars battle back from a four-point halftime deficit. Glendale (7-13, 1-5) led by as many as 12 in the first half.
The Vaqueros again built a double-digit lead in the opening minutes of the second half.
Henderson led Canyons with 18 points including a pair of three-pointers. El-Farra finished with 14 points, eight in the second half, and tied with Henderson for the game high with 11 boards.
After Galgano's buzzer-beater sent the game into overtime the Cougars went on to miss their first four shot attempts of the extra period before Dillon Barrientos and Galgano converted on back-to-back possessions to bring Canyons to within a point at 66-65.
A pair of Henderson free-throws moved COC ahead at 67-66 and Quincy Arms later added another to put the game at 68-66 with just over a minute to play.
Following a Glendale timeout, Julian Dixon was able to hit a three-pointer for the Vaqueros for a 69-66 advantage.
Henderson was good once more on a short jumper with 21 seconds to play, but the Vaqueros, without any timeouts, quickly advanced the ball and found Jarred Jones for layup that sealed the game for Glendale at 71-70.
Canyons had a last gasp inbound attempt for a final shot, but the play was disrupted by a Glendale defender as the final buzzer sounded.
The Vaqueros shot just under 46 percent for the game and were 8-of-19 from behind the arc. COC struggled from the field to a mark of 35.4 percent but were also hurt by going just 17-of-32 from the foul line.
