College of the Canyons sophomore point guard Dillon Barrientos is set to continue his career at the next level after committing to the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA).
The UAA Seawolves participate in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II level and are headed by Rusty Osborne, in his 19th season leading the program.
Barrientos dedicated two-years to the COC men's basketball program posting starts in 24 of 28 games during the 2022-23 season.
Commanding the court, Barrientos averaged 15.3 points and three assists per game while shooting 35 percent from behind the arc and 44.5 percent from the field.
The Hart High School alum found his way to College of the Canyons through COC assistant coach Brian Kimble.
"Coach Brian Kimble has made a huge impact on me at COC," said Barrientos. "He was the one that brought me to COC and guided me throughout the way."
Being a student athlete is no easy feat, but Barrientos is sure his time at Canyons has prepared him for the next level through time management, focus and getting in the extra workouts that paved the way to UAA.
Barrientos earned All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division First Team honors after his freshman year and was an All-WSC, South Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore.
"His greatest strength was his calmness in pressure situations, he was never rattled by anything," said Kimble. "As Dillon moves into this next chapter, I think he is ready to lead and be a great floor general at the next level."
