Canyons Settles For Second at WSC Tourney No. 4
Cougs fall one stroke off the mark, finish behind SBCC.
The College of the Canyons men's golf team had its four tournament win streak broken, falling one stroke behind first place finisher Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) at Western State Conference (WSC) Tournament No. 4 at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.
The Cougars turned in a team score of 370 compared to a mark of 369 from SBCC.
Tourney host Ventura College took third place with a score of 375 and Glendale College finished fourth at 386.
The team from SBCC has rivaled Canyons all season long, with COC and SBCC finishing first/second in four straight tournaments.
COC golfers Hamish Houston and Noah Bernstein each scored 73 to lead the Cougars.
Sophomore Eric Kim followed right behind with a final score of 74. Meanwhile, Braden Lewis and Cameron Boomer rounded out the Cougar top five by each scoring 75.
Edouard Fiszel finished with a non-scoring mark of 76.
Despite the second place finish Canyons atop the WSC standings.
In addition, the Cougars hold seven of the conference's top-10 individual spots with Kim (2nd), Fiszel (4th), Bernstein (5th), Boomer (6th), Matt Murray (7th), Houston (8th) and Noa Yap (9th) each ranked based on their average score per round.
Lewis ranks just outside the top-10 at 11th place.
Canyons will next tee-off in the Southern California Preview being held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 16, at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
