COC Men’s Golf Crowned Conference Champs For Sixth Straight Season
Sophomore Eric Kim is named WSC Golfer of the Year.
The COC men's golf team turned in another winning performance on Monday, as the Cougars secured the program's sixth straight WSC Championship — and 21st overall — by claiming victory at the 2015 WSC Championships held at Rancho Vista Golf Club.
As has been the theme all season, Canyons was able to hold off a talented second place team from Santa Barbara City College by single-digit strokes to take the 36-hole tourney.
The Cougars finished with a score of 726 to top SBCC at 729. Ventura College turned in a score of 749 to edge out fourth place finisher Allan Hancock College.
Canyons finishes the 2015 conference season with 74 points out of a possible 77. COC also went 74-3 on the season in conference match play.
As result of their performances, Canyons, SBCC and third place finisher Ventura College have all qualified for the SoCal Championships being held May 4, at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
On Monday, the Cougars were led by freshman Matt Murray who carded rounds of 72 and 70 to finish as COC's top performer.
Clayton Chatterly shot a 71 and 73 for Canyons, while Sam Sloman has the third best finish with rounds of 73 and 72.
Braden Lewis (74/73), Will Mullins (75/75) and Eric Kim (73/77) rounded out the COC scores.
In addition, Kim was named WSC Golfer of the Year, after averaging a conference best 71.1 strokes per 18-holes this season.
