Canyons Wins Second Straight CCCAA SoCal Championship

The College of the Canyons men's golf team won its second straight California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Championship on Monday, besting the field of eight teams during the 36-hole tournament played at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
Canyons was the leader after the first 18 holes, then continued that pace to card a team score of 710, finishing 13 strokes ahead of Santa Barbara City College (723). College of the Desert (725) took third place.
The field also included teams from Ventura, Palomar, Riverside, Santiago Canyon and Orange Coast College.
COC sophomore Eric Kim — the Western State Conference player of the year — was the tournament's second-lowest scorer, with two identical 69 stroke rounds for a total score of 138. He missed the individual SoCal Title by just one stroke.
Sophomore Sam Sloman placed second for the Cougars with a score of 140 (68/72).
Freshman Matt Murray (69/74) and sophomore Noa Yap (70/73) each finished at 143. Sophomore Clayton Chatterley (70/76) and freshman Braden Lewis (77/80) rounded out the Canyons scorecard.
Canyons previously won the SoCal Championship in 2014, 2012 and 1989.
COC will next tee off at the CCCAA State Championships at Kings River Golf & Country Club in Kingsburg, CA, on Monday, May 11.
