Canyons Wins Third Straight Conference Tourney
COC had three players post scores under 80, including freshman Ben Campbell and sophomore Cameron Boomer who each shot a 77 to tie for the tournament’s second place spot.
The College of the Canyons men's golf team won its third straight Western State Conference tournament, with the Cougars able to post a five-man score of 394 at Antelope Valley Country Club on Wednesday.
Canyons finished 19 strokes ahead of Ventura and host Antelope Valley College at 413. Ventura was awarded the second spot based on a card off and AVC took third. Santa Barbara City College finished fourth with a score of 415.
Despite windy conditions on the course, COC had three players post scores under 80, including freshman Ben Campbell and sophomore Cameron Boomer who each shot a 77. That score was good enough to tie for the tournament's second place individual spot.
Freshman Will Barnett finished the day with a score of 79 to tie for the tournament's sixth place spot.
Travis Fay carded an 80 and Jaeyeol Kim ranked right behind him with a score of 81. Jason McGuinness' score of 82 was scratched.
Canyons will next travel up the coast to compete in WSC Tourney No. 6 at Santa Maria Country Club on Monday, March 28.
