Cougars Take Top Two Spots on Day 1 of Season Opener Tourney

LOMPOC — College of the Canyons began its 2022 season playing in day one of the annual Pt. Conception Open on Sunday, with the Cougars' two entered teams taking the first two spots in the field.
The Canyons "B" team (Dom De Luca, Paul Hautbourg, Kieran Bye, Victor Luck, Jordan Allaire, Karl Gard) led with a five-player score of 381 after day one of the event, which had to be suspended due to darkness on Sunday evening and completed Monday morning prior to the start of the tourney's second round.
The Cougars' "A" team (Magnus Hansen, Hugo Amsallem, Braden Threlkeld, Leo Cheng, Michael Oh, Noe Del Campo) slotted second with a score of 388.
Saddleback and Cypress College tied for the No. 3 spot in the standings at 393.
Individually, De Luca and Hansen tied at 73 to represent the top round for Canyons. That mark represented the toruney's top performances of the day.
Hautbourg finished the day at 74 followed by Amsallem at 76.
Bye and Luck both came in at 77 and Threlkeld was next at 79.
Day two action of the non-conference event is scheduled to continue Monday morning from La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc.
