Canyons Fights to the Finish in 6-3 Loss vs. Santa Monica

College of the Canyons freshman Mary MacAdam remained undefeated on the year and doubles duo of Nicole Villarta and Taylor Cohen won its fourth straight, but the Lady Cougars came up short in a 6-3 final result to visiting Santa Monica College.

Canyons (9-2, 5-2) and Santa Monica (7-2, 6-2) split the season series. COC had previously defeated the Corsairs on the road back on Feb. 5. The victory was the fifth straight for SMC, while COC's loss snapped a three-match win streak.

MacAdam improved to 12-0 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 4 spot.

Freshman Jaclyn Wosk was the other singles winner for Canyons, taking her match 6-1, 6-2 and improving to 8-2 for the season.

Jennifer Russell lost her first match of the year by a 0-6, 1-6 result. She had entered the day a perfect 10-0.

Villarta and Cohen have teamed for a 7-2 record in doubles play thus far this season.

Canyons will look to rebound when Western State Conference (WSC) play resumes on Tuesday, March 10 at Ventura College. Doubles play will begin at 2 p.m. with singles action to follow.
