Canyons Wins Pair to Keep Conference Win Streak Alive

College of the Canyons won consecutive Western State Conference (WSC) matches over Antelope Valley and Ventura College to remain undefeated in conference play. 

Canyons (8-1, 4-0) was able to get back in the win column after suffering its lone loss, a non-conference affair, to visiting American River College, the defending state champions, back on Feb. 10. 

The Lady Cougars opened the week with a 6-3 home win over Antelope Valley College on Feb. 13. COC took a pair of points in doubles play before winning four of its six singles matchups. 

The teams of Estrella Segura/Nina Laurien and Faith Abt/Marie McCormick both won in doubles play. In singles action it was No. 1 Sydney Tamondong, No. 3 Segura, No. 5 Abt and No. 6 McCormick all coming away with wins. 

The victory moved COC to 4-1 at the Cougar Courts facility. 

Later in the week, Canyons was able to get a 5-4 road win over host Ventura. 

This time it was the duo of Tamondong/Wingo taking a point in No. 1 doubles with the No. 3 team of Abt/McCormick following suit. 

In singles play a slight shuffling of the lineup resulted in wins from No. 1 Tamondong, No. 2 Segura and No. 6 Jaclyn Wosk.

The victory moved COC's road record to 4-0. 

After having its Feb. 20 road match at Santa Barbara City College postponed due to inclement weather, Canyons is next scheduled to host Glendale College at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22.

The match at SBCC has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m.
