Lady Cougars Dominate Antelope Valley 9-0

LANCASTER — The Lady Cougars picked up another conference victory with a dominating 9-0 road win at Antelope Valley College on Tuesday.

Canyons (11-4, 7-3) has won three of its last four matches with Tuesday's victory moving the team back into the win column after a loss to L.A. Mission College its last time out. The win also keeps COC within striking distance of the Western State Conference (WSC) title with four conference matches remaining on the schedule.

No. 1 singles player Sydney Tamondong won her fourth straight matchup and has run her record to 12-2 on the season.

Estrella Segura also claimed a win from the No. 2 position to snap a losing streak while No. 3 player Nina Laurien won her second straight outing.

Marie McCormick ended a three-match slide with her win at AVC and Faith Abt won her third match across the last four. Jaclyn Wosk, the current COC student-athlete of the week, won her fifth straight and now sits at 9-1 on the year while playing from the No. 6 spot.

In doubles action it was Tamondong/Segura reestablishing their winning ways and improving to 3-1 for the year. The No. 2 duo of Laurien/McCormick also got back in the win column while the teaming of Abt/Wosk won a fifth straight pairing. Wosk is a combined 9-1 in doubles play while primarily teaming with Abt.

Up next, Canyons will host conference foe Ventura College at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14. That matchup will be broadcast to fans via the Cougars Sports Network in a first of its kind live stream event for the COC women's tennis program.
