2016 College of the Canyons Men's Golf News

The Cougars won six conference championships in 2015-16, with women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball, men’s cross country and men’s golf all bringing home WSC titles.

Campbell’s individual state championship is the second in program history, following in the footsteps of former COC golfer Sidney Wolf who accomplished the same feat in 2014.

Will Barnett led the Cougars with a 2-under-par 142 (69-73) to earn medalist honors and teammate Jason Mcguinness finished second at 145 (73-72).

The conference championship is the program’s 22nd overall. COC freshman Will Barnett earned WSC Player of the Year Honors, while Jaeyeol Kim and Matt Cheng were both named All-WSC.

The Cougars are a combined 61-2 in tournament play, having won eight of nine WSC events this season to sit in first place.

Freshman Jason McGuinness was the low man for the Cougars with a score of 75, to also place second individually at the event.

COC freshman Jaeyeol Kim carded a score of 71 to finish in the tournament’s second place spot as Cougars finish first.

Canyons currently sits on top of the WSC rankings with a nine-point advantage over second place Ventura College.

COC had three players post scores under 80, including freshman Ben Campbell and sophomore Cameron Boomer who each shot a 77 to tie for the tournament’s second place spot.

COC freshman Will Barnett carded a score of 71 to tie for the tournament’s top individual score.

Freshman Travis Fay tied for tourney top spot with a score of 68 and Will Barnett takes third place with a mark of 69.

COC freshman Matt Cheng finished as the tournament’s overall leader with a score of 71 to win second straight event.
